CVOW: 44 of 176 turbines installed at the largest US offshore wind farm
Dominion Energy gave an update on Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) with its Q3 2026 results on 30 October. 44 of the 176 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines are installed, and the 45th is being installed now.
The first turbine went up in January 2026. First power reached the grid in March 2026. Each turbine becomes operational as it is finished.
The vessel Charybdis is doing the installation. It is the first Jones Act-compliant wind turbine installation vessel. Dominion ordered it, and Seatrium built it at the AmFELS yard in Brownsville, Texas.
The base rate is two days per turbine, not counting load-out, transit, weather and maintenance. Dominion says this rate has not changed so far. The company still expects the 176th turbine by the end of 2027. Earlier it had aimed to finish in early 2027, and it added contingency time for weather, vessel maintenance, load-out and long jacking operations.
Two offshore substations are already commissioned. The third is expected to be energised by the end of 2026.
The project is 2.6 GW. Dominion also says the cost of energy fell from USD 83/MWh to USD 62/MWh, because REC revenues are higher.

| ROLE | WHEN | DEMAND | CERTIFICATES THAT HELP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offshore turbine installation technician (mechanical) | Now – end 2027 | STEADY | GWO BST, BTT, Sea Survival; US offshore medical |
| Rigger / banksman / crane crew | Now – end 2027 | STEADY | GWO Basic Safety Training, Slinger Signaller, Rigging |
| Electrical / commissioning technician | 2026-H2 – 2028 | MEDIUM | GWO BST, BTT, electrical authorisation, HV safety training |
| Service technician (O&M) | From 2027 | MEDIUM | GWO BST, BTT, Sea Survival, Siemens Gamesa training |
Installation runs at a steady pace to the end of 2027. Contact the installation contractors now and ask about O&M roles for when it ends.
Get GWO BST and Sea Survival first. US offshore jobs usually want offshore experience, so look at onshore or port roles to start.
Aim at the long-term O&M team. Turbines are handed over one by one, so service jobs start before the installation finishes.
