Taean: LS Cable and LS Marine reserve cable capacity for South Korea's 504 MW offshore wind farm

// WHAT HAPPENED

LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solution have signed a capacity reservation agreement with Taean Wind Power. It covers subsea cables for the 504 MW Taean offshore wind farm in South Korea.

The deal holds factory capacity and cable-laying vessel slots before the main contract is signed. The companies aim to agree the final contract, including its value, by the end of 2026. They were picked as preferred bidders in 2024 and are now doing engineering and early surveys.

Taean Wind Power is a joint venture of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Vena Energy. The project won an offtake contract in South Korea's 2024 fixed-price auction. In 2025 it also signed power purchase agreements for 500 MW with Korea Western Power and Gangneung Eco Power.

Earlier updates put the start of construction at Q4 2026 and commercial operation at Q4 2029. LS Marine plans to use its GL2030 cable-laying vessel, upgraded to 7,000 tonnes capacity. Taean is the second big Korean offshore project for the two companies together, after Shinan Ui.

Watch for the final cable contract by end of 2026. HV jointing and commissioning skills will matter first. Korean crews may be preferred, so ask contractors about international roles.
